Brent Montgomery

Brent Montgomery is one of the foremost percussion instructors, consultants, and arrangers in the country today.

Brent received his Bachelors of Arts in Music Education from East Carolina in 1987, and shortly thereafter obtained his Masters of Music, specializing in Percussion Performance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Brent was the percussion caption head for Dutch Boy Drum & Bugle Corps from Kitchener, Ontario when they reached the drum corps international world finals in 1990, and proceeded to become an integral part of the world champion Star of Indiana drum and bugle corps from Bloomington, IN. While at Star, Brent was a part of some of the most preeminent percussion ensembles in the history of DCI, serving as a percussion instructor from 1991-1992, and head of the percussion battery section in 1993-which captured the high percussion award that season. As a percussion consultant, Brent has served as an independent contractor for some of DCI’s most competitive ensembles; which include The Crossmen ’98, Carolina Crown ’04, and the Blue Knights ’05

From 1994-2007, Brent was assistant director of instrumental music at Southport High School in Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Montgomery instructed all levels of music including: marching band, wind ensemble, Symphonic Band, Pep Band, Concert Band and Marimba ensemble. Brent also served as band director, and department chairman of the Chapel Hill 7th & 8th grade center in Indianapolis, IN from 2007-2008.

In the fall of 2005, Brent became the percussion caption head for the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps, which placed 8th in 2008 after a 32-year finals absence.

Currently, Brent is the Director of Steel Drums at Gregg Middle School in Dorchester School District Two located in Summerville, SC where he also resides.
