The High School Wind Ensemble features the finest musucians at Ashley Ridge High School. The Wind Ensemble meets seventh period all year and is populated by students of all grade levels. The Wind Ensemble focuses on refining instrumental playing skills and performing quality music literature of a higher difficulty level. Members of the Wind Ensemble will perform three concerts during the school year and participate in SCBDA band contests.
The High School Symphonic Band is the second band at Ashley Ridge High School. The Symphonic Band meets first period all year. Symphonic Band focuses on refining instrumental playing skills and performing quality music literature of a higher difficulty level. Members of the Symphonic Band will perform two concerts during the school year.
Wind Band Events
Solo & Ensemble Contest
Solo and Ensemble is an adjudicated event sanctioned by the South Carolina Band Directors Association in which students may play individually or in small groups. Soloists typically play with or without an accompanist. Ensembles usually number from 2 to 5 players, but sometimes are larger. Examples of ensembles that could perform at Solo and Ensemble Contest would be trumpet trio, flute quartet, woodwind quintet, brass quintet.
Region & All-State Band
The Region and All-State Band membership is selected in January by an audition of students from across the state. These bands rehearse and perform as part of the South Carolina Band Director’s Association which is held at Charleston Southern University and Furman University each year.
In the spring of each school year, the South Carolina Band Director’s Association sanctions an event in which concert bands play for judges’ comments and ratings. In March, the Symphonic band performs at this State level event.
