Color Guard...
The TRADITION has Begun....
The FUTURE is Bright....
Fall Guard works in close partnership with the marching band and is an integral part of The Show.  Much like their marching counterparts, the members of the 2009 guard arrived at the first day of Band Camp with little knowledge of even the basics.  Through hard work and practice the squad jelled and perfected their routines.

The Best Color Guard citation was awarded to them at their first meet.  The squad went on to earn a spot and compete at the 2009 South Carolina State Marching Championships.  The efforts of the 2009-10 Fall Guard set a firm, proud,  foundation for building the program.

During the winter, the first Ashley Ridge Winter Guard was formed.  They placed first in each competition they entered, and on March 20, 2010, the novice group earned the program's (and the school's) first State Championship.

Congratulations to Both Winter Groups on Outstanding Performances Saturday at West Ashley!

For those who did not understand what exactly happened with the Guard at the Awards Saturday, Mr. Hinkel has written an explanation below:

Guard classifications are as follows:

Regional A:  Beginning guards, our class last year  (13 guards currently in the circuit)

AAAA:  2nd year guards, very young (21 guards in the circuit)

AAA:  More experienced but still young (13 guards in the circuit)

AA:  experienced guards that are pretty talented (10 guards in the circuit)

A:  The top of A class, very developed, mature and seasoned performers. (10 guards in the circuit)

Open Class: The absolute best high school guards in our circuit/state (2 guards in the circuit)

Our color guard has achieved an unprecedented event.  We don't think this has ever happened in the history of CWEA.  After competition Saturday, our winter guard went from Regional A last year straight to A class this year skipping over AAAA, AAA and AA.  This is equal to them beating 44 guards as they placed 3rd in the A class.  This is truly amazing. We're playing with the big boys now.... Go Swamp Foxes!
